Opportunities to prepare forest school activities in biology teacher education
Abstract
Although there are several certified forest schools in Hungary, primary and secondary school teachers still organize forest-school programs or activities in outdoor settings themselves. Usually they form their programs unassisted, and the actual educational contents is developed and shaped for years requiring tremendous working hours. That process can be shortened by special trainings during their university years. The curriculum of biology teachers contains lectures, practices, field practices providing knowledge necessary for assembling forest-school programs. This theoretical knowledge could be accompanied with practices helping the planning, organization and realization of such programs as well as introducing pedagogical skills required in outdoor settings. Field practices especially suitable to incorporate this special knowledge. In this study we introduce our program aiding the acquirement of theoretical and methodological basis of forest-school pedagogy.
