Review of the Book Entitled “Sustainability Education Guide for Secondary and Higher Education Institutions” by Ferenc Mónus
Abstract
The book entitled Sustainability Education Guide for Secondary and Higher Education Institutions was published in December 2020 by the Center of Higher Educational Research and Development (CHERD) of the University of Debrecen. The book is intended to support the work of professionals working in secondary and higher education, as well as in education policy and development; it may be useful to anyone interested in sustainability education (ESD). In the volume, the author focuses on the pedagogy of sustainability and the dissemination of an environmentally conscious approach. In the light of national and international researches, he thoroughly analyse the situation of ESD in Hungary, gives a deep insight to the drivers and barriers, and to the potential pathways of the development of ESD. The book calls for the integration of a pronounced sustainability approach into the curricula, and for the need of a pedagogical renewal. This comprehensive review is important from both a practical and a theoretical point of view; it is freely available for download in an electronic format.
