Education for Sustainability in the Tihany Lavender Forest Kindergarten
Abstract
Nowadays, the importance of programs that offer opportunity to children to connect with nature is becoming more and more appreciated. One of these programs is the so-called 'forest kindergarten' which is now available for more and more teachers and parents. In our study we would like to introduce the three-day program of the 'Tihany Lavender Forest Kindergarten' and its influence on children. First, we analyse the three-day program from the aspects of children activities and skill development. Afterwards, we examine the long-term experience and knowledge gained by children during program. Finally, we compare the attitude and knowledge of children participating and children not participating in the program. As methods, we used a worksheet with the children, interview with a kindergarten teacher who accompanied children to the forest kindergarten, and questionnaire with the parents of children participating in the program. Our results show that the forest kindergarten program can create long-term change and development in children's attitudes, interests and knowledge.
